Modular Steel Frame System

Our cold roll-formed sections are manufactured from certified structural steel coil to BS EN 10346, in grades S280GD, S350GD and S450GD, selected to suit the load and span. Galvanised coatings range from Z275 for standard internal use up to Z350 and Z450 for more exposed or corrosive environments. As a business, we have held ISO 9001:2015 certification since 2016. For any project, we can confirm the exact grade, gauge and coating for the section you need.

There is no single figure. Capacity depends on the section profile, steel grade, material thickness and the spacing and span of the frame, so the safe load for a wall stud differs from a floor joist or roof member. We size sections against the loads and spans in your design rather than working from fixed tables. Send us your layout and loading requirements, and our technical team will specify the right section.

Each material has its place, but cold roll-formed steel offers a particular mix of speed, consistency and durability.

Compared with timber, steel is non-combustible and dimensionally stable. It will not warp, shrink, or rot, and every section performs to a consistent, certified strength rather than varying piece to piece.

Compared with concrete, steel framing is lighter, which lowers foundation loads, and it is assembled dry rather than cured on site, so it avoids the weather dependence and waiting time of wet trades. Steel frames are also easier to alter or extend later, and the material is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

The biggest trade-off is thermal performance. Steel conducts heat, so a steel frame must be detailed with appropriate insulation and thermal breaks to meet building regulations. When handled at the design stage, this is routine rather than a barrier.
